Just Buzzin' By

I am so in love with Lucky You, the March Monthly Mix from Lizzie Anne Designs! It has the cutest images, I swear. How they manage to keep getting cuter every month I cannot figure out. But every single month I swear I cannot like the next one more, and poof! They knock my socks off!

This card started out completely different from the way it ended up. Originally it was a long card not a tall one, it had another layer of cardstock, a layer of dp, and some other embellishments. It looked great in my head. But when I started laying it all out, I just couldn't get it to "click". So I threw my whole idea out and started again. Quite by accident I set the layered nesties on the base and realized I liked it.

I figured - why not just stay simple? Simple is good. White space is nice. Once I settled on that plan the rest of the card came together quickly. The tree trunk and clouds are cut from Cosmo Cricket's Calamity Jane dp. I colored the tree leaves, beehive, and bees with Copics. The bee trails are pierced with a paper piercer.

To add my ribbon (clearance find at WalMart - $1 for a 9 yard spool!!!) I used my hobby blade to cut a slit on the spine of the card and threaded it through that way. I stamped my sentiment on the bottom and the card was done!

Inside I just stamped the honeycomb pattern repetitively and used a Copic marker to color the hearts. I sponged the edges to add some depth. I love a lined inside - it makes the card feel so finished. And I'll let you in on my tricksy little secret - I don't work hard on the liners at all. I have a few friends that think adding a liner has to be time consuming, or is a waste of expensive product. Not true! Whenever possible I use the 110lb GP White cardstock available at WalMart. I use a simple stamp - a flower image, this honeycomb, etc. I spend no more than 10 minutes on it -- and that is when I add coordinating dp. It's a great place to use up scraps or thin strips left over from when you trim down dp!

Have a really great weekend, and I appreciate you stopping by!
